Orphan Black S01 EP04 Review

[Disclaimer] No offence is intended here everything is just speculation and opinion, i apologise if you have taken offence somewhere throughout [ Disclaimer]

This episode opens after the crazy ending of the other clone 'angel' sewing herself up and now we find out its in someone else's house and a little boy goes down stairs and sees her and it is the creepiest thing, what did she do to that child, as later the episode he is so terrified that he can barely speak. What happened?

As Sarah is trying to find out as much as she can about this new clone she is stumbling deeper and deeper to the point that the new clone (the blond one) is even impersonating her at work and is messing with her 'new' life with Paul and Art. However this all seems very background in this episode and it seems like it is much more centred around her relationship with her daughter who is being taken care of by Mrs.S (Sarah's foster mother). Mrs.S allows Sarah one  night to come visit her daughter to prove that she is changing but due to the whole murder fiasco Sarah is pre-occupied and cannot go or art will suspect something and find out the whole charade. Although I thought if that happened she could say Mrs.S is looking after her niece or anything really. Seen as though the ridiculous lies she has told so far this seems very casual and feasible in comparison, but ho hey she didn't. So what could she do in a moment like this, she "needs to be in two places at one" so here comes the clone, Alison Hendrix.

Alison takes the challenge after some really funny moments from Felix, he adds some much needed sarcasm in parts. Some how Alison can impersonate Sarah/Beth within a day of training to the point that Mrs.S cant tell that its not her, this is pretty stupid, one day that's all. And her foster mother cant tell that she is acting completely different than she did like two weeks previous, c'mon guys really. But little old Kira can tell, I don't know how she hasn't seen her mother in over a year but ya'know, she must have a sixth sense about clones. It was all very touching the meeting they had, Kira wants her mum so bad you can clearly see and a copy cat wont suffice but Mrs.S drops her ice shield and allows Sarah/Beth/Alison to walk her home from school after Alison/Sarah asks, which would she really after one visit after a year be like, oh yeah just walk her home and don't take off with her. Okay then.

Back to the intense drama action, after the 'angel' bleeds out all over the kids bathroom. The cops show up the next day with Beth alongside, but this is possibly one of the worst scenarios as the kid points at Beth implying that the 'angel' looked like her, then. No one batters an eyelid, what will it take for someone to be suspicious of Beth/Sarah. The child has a fortune paper thing and they take it and analyse it and find that there are addresses on it and go there, but this is where little blond 'Angle' waltz' in acting like Beth, even though she looks like she is on crack but no one really cares. There seems to be alack of attention in the POLICE STATION. And she goes and f****s everything in the boardroom up.

And Beth goes to find that Maggie Chen and the 'angle' are connected which is such a predictable plot line, I'm sorry but I seen that coming from the minute that we saw that knife, so its like the KKK for clones I'm assuming. So Beth/Sarah arrives at Chen's flat to see the 'angel' pretty much dead and there is some seriously intense dialogue between the two of them and this is where we pretty much find out that Sarah is the original (what are the chances.) but the 'angel' was told she was and that's why she is on this crusade so Sarah pretty much made the 'anglels' life worthless in about 3 minutes. Don't get me wrong it was crazy intense but then it got tied right back up and that was a crappy move by the writers, all to prolong the massive plot climax. Uncool dudes, uncool.

But then holy s**t the 'angle' collapses in an alley and a man comes and collects her only to have a frikin ring with the same logo as the Clone Klux Klan, Hot damn guys, we are getting some context to why the clones have been made and who by. Yey all these loose ends are coming together to make a thread. I'm so exited.

In Conclusion:

The episode was action packed towards the end but was very overshadowed from the outset by the mother daughter relationship drama, this gave the episode strengths and weaknesses. It was one of the best so far and making it climb to my top watch list very fast. All in all good episode cant wait for next week, just please someone figure it out already.

Speculation Time:

Kira and Sarah relationship seems like its going to be seriously tested with the 'camera man'. But most importantly Paul may be working for the clone creators, I think that he is and Beth was with him to find everything out and she did that's why she killed herself, Paul knows that Beth knows something that's why he is always almost bipolar with her. And it almost seems like it was Alison and Sarah were talking and Sarah said "How could you do that to her" either he is referring to Kira or what I'm thinking is Alison has 'disposed' of Cosima which would be a massive loss but okay.

Game Of Thrones S01 EP04

[Disclaimer] I have not read the book/s so all upcoming info is speculation only, other writing is opinion, sorry if your offended [Disclaimer]

This episode was all about the Queens. All the strong omen in the show that wanted the Iron throne or one very similar, Cersei wants to be the only queen, Margaery wants Joffrey crown, Sansa whats the high garden crown and finally Daenerys wants... well everything.

And the episode was very centred around this apart from any dull scenes with bran or Theon which were frankly disappointing it cut to them for 5 minutes or so and it was totally wasted screen time, and I know what people will say that Bran's dream will come into play later but it could give us something else to go by. And for Theon's part , why. Why was that even there what did it add but more questions which I frankly didn't really care if they were answered.

But all that aside and other than the 4/5 queens Jaime and Brienne had a fantastic (all be it short) set of scenes and dialogue which showed a much more personal and real side to Jaime which we haven't seen yet, it was great and added much more depth to his character allowing people to truly root for him to get back and survive. The dialogue between him and Brienne around the fire was actually so well done, it really grounded both characters and pushes their relationship high up in the air, from him saving her and vice versa.
But that bread looked real tough.

And to the first aspiring Queen. Margaery. She had some very interesting parts this episode and that woman really has her head screwed on its unreal. The scene with her and Joffery is so powerful and shows her true strengths in manipulation she makes him feel on top of the world and even gets him to go outside to see his people, his face terrified at this point as all he hears is Margaery's name but then his name begins being chanted and they both lift arms and wave and a flush of pride and joy rushes over his face whilst she seems very pleased with her work. All while Cersei screams out for him to stop, she is loosing her crown and she knows this and cant handle it, its slipping so she goes to do what is only left. She will do everything in others power to take that crown and she will do it well, undermining Cersei.

Now for little Arya the 1/2 queen as she doesn't know it but shes gunning for it strong. Her scenes were.... well underwhelming. It seems her story is starting to die out, its flame burning low if you will. This episode takes her to a cave, a cave where the hound has been taken to be put to sentence by the men who don't follow any king, deserters. And to be frank it was pretty boring with Arya having a little line here and there, then it was over.... yes that was it.

Now an important scene between Olenna Tyrell and the 'spider' Lord Varys and this is such a huge set up for the marriage between Sansa and Lorras and the destruction of 'littlefinger's plan, which i like to see any day but anyhow, this old woman just cracks me the hell up especially when 'spider' asks for a seat and she says no and leaves him to stand. This woman is one of my favourite characters just for the humour factor alone. She as well as him is so intelligent.


The next queen sees (imagine drumroll here) Sansa. Wait. What. Yes that's right Margeary's grandmother sent her little protege gran daughter the task of planting the marriage seed in Sansa's head for her to marry Lorras Tyrell yes Renly's (R.I.P) bit on the side. obviously after hearing that she will be free from Kingslanding Sansa wells up and gets teary at the thought of being queen of the Highgarden and they "Would be like sisters" so she goes ahead and breaks down completely while Margaery has that signature smirk with those sweet blue eyes.

Cersei no the reining Queen (regent) and the only queen up there for now. This time we see her so vulnerable and threatened by Margaery with her father shooting down her intelligence and arrogance which shocks her system as she longs for her brother (for more than brotherly Love if you know what i mean). When Margaery takes Joffrey to see his people she knows its gone she has lost him so she runs right to her farther for help and help he does but we wont see till the next episode (boo). It was interesting seeing her like this and Cersei is so well played by Lena Headey, the performance is outstanding but Natalie Dormer who plays Margaery is cutting her in the acting world as well and the mystical.

Now for Dany (my favourite character) and this time she really started to get crazy which I'm sure most people guessed but after last week wanting to sell her dragon for soldiers  most were shocked to the core but this time she proved us all wrong and kicked ass by just blitzing the whole place leaving with dragons and soldiers in hand. All of this after revealing that she can in fact speaks Valyrian and everyone including the translator and her right hand man are stumped and she then rages all out attack and slaughters all she sees bad, slavers and everyone else apart from children and the slaves them self. Then she rides off into the sunset with dragons and soldiers in toe.

 


In Conclusion:

This episode was all about the strong intelligent women that seriously (apart from Sansa) kick ass in one way or another, filled with action and crazy drama that in the climactic ending left me so buzzed for the next episode. GO HOUSE TARGARYEN!

Speculation Time:

It looks like the action is seriously heating up in Westeros (among other places) and I'm really liking the look apart from some more god of light crap but I shall wait and see. Im thinking that Dany will make way on her invasion while the starks try to figure out how they might stand a chance against Tywin and the lions just sit and wait for them to enjoy the slaughter.

Evil Dead (2013) Review.

! WARNING ! There will be many spoilers ahead, skip to The Conclusion at the end to avoid, thanks and enjoy.

Just to start with this film was excellent it was such a good blend and i found it very hard to pick out all the faults and even then they were just Little nit-picks. And I decided to split this into categories below.

Acting:

Well near the beginning the acting was very.... eennnaarrrgggyyy, not great but as soon as Mia started to have 'withdrawl' symptoms it really kicked of. The begging of the film I'm referring to is when they just get to the cabin and they're all chatting and Mia's sat on an old car out back which by the way how did that get left there and as for the whole film when the hell was the last family member at the cabin, a century ago. But that aside it was very soap opera with cheesy lines and when David says "hey sis" I was almost out, who says that really ? But it very hastily redeemed itself so its okay and that part of the film is about ..... hmmm 20 minutes long give or take so it was bearable.

After the whole finding the book and reading it and the 'demon' is released and inside of Mia, when she sees a clone type character in the forest and starts to 'lose' it Jane Levy really shows up her peers and from then till then end of the film she is so impressive, raw and realistic, every little cut and slice she gets as an un-possessed is so real that I (I'm a huge horror buff by the way) was cringing and gritting my teeth and that goes for the whole cast, it all seems so real. But back to Jane throughout the possession that can look horribly cheap in a film just worked, everything just worked so well, and the choking scene towards the beginning was so string i was almost shouting in the screening I was in.
The rest of the main cast were impressive as well but they were easily overshadowed by Jane however when Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) had her individual scenes she started to shine through but if you've seen the film you know it didn't last long.

Gore:

This is what got many people in my screening, there was two people threw up and to my left was a huge guy deep breathing and he was so jumpy you wouldn't believe, but the gore (I found) was not overdone, it all had a purpose. Where with many horror flicks there is lots of gore and severing of limbs for next to no reason just for the sake of being gory but with this everything was done and you understood why it was done. It wasn't that unbelievable the measures of blood or what the characters could stand before they died apart from Eric(Lou Taylor Pucci) who withstood a hell of a lot before he croaked, hit repeatedly in the head with a crowbar, shot with a nail gun, stabbed with shards of glass, stabbed in the eye with a needle and then still maneges to walk from outside the cabin to the basement through the house, down a set of stairs and into another room and then bash Mia in the head. Really, still not dead. But if that it put aside it was all very believable.
Well done to some of the actors for dealing with some scenes like when Mia vomits blood and other stuff directly into Olivia's (Jessica Lucas) mouth, I don't know how she put up with that and Mia and Natalie's scene in the basement stairs that was just so grungy and sick it was crazy, and I know that what they are paid for but that was impressive that they did that so many times as well just well done. And just to up the ante on any other horror film the last 20 minutes are scenes filled with raining blood from the sky so that happened.

Make-up/practical effects:

Obviously this film was shocking everyone with its no CG at all, the effects throughout are all practical and in many parts i was questioning how did they do that ? there was use of animatronics with the torching of the girl in the opening scene and the cutting mouth part in the bathroom. But major applause for the make-up team for this production, it was all phenomenal and looked very realistic and really intensified the movie. I really found that the no CG qwerk was such a right decision it made it feel so much more real and authentic and even more terrifying than other gore-fests. If nothing else it also made the film feel like a classic horror not these modern day haunting s**t. Even the standard dark eyes and boil make up was great it just looked beautiful. The iconic rape tree was amazing how did they make it look so smooth, with Mia's scream, it just shuck me through. Then at the end the demon giant thing looked fantastic and  lovely hand tearing looked real it didn't look plastic and easily torn it looked f***ing painful.

Camera Shots:

My favourite part and the part that most horror films fail miserably on is camera shots and angles, this film was littered with unique and perfect camera movements especially the over the shoulder shots that worked so well here but really shouldn't, the best one was Mia at the bottom of the basement and Natalie is at the top that angle was so amazing I just fell in love there and then but it shouldn't have worked for the film, but it did oh it definitely did.

It is hard to mention all of the amazing shots without all of you getting very confused and mixed up but the most memorable and cool was the through the forest shot where the 'demon' moves through the woods to the characters, this scene which was also in the original was so perfect and just uplifted the films quality every second.
Towards the end the camera just like the action was intensifying very fast, quick changes and extended shots and angles making you try with the characters to help them survive, all of these rolled up together were just pushing this film from a horror flick to some great cinematography.

Story:

The story was very different to the original thus proving this is not a REMAKE, its just so frustrating when people use that term but anywho, it is a strong story but this may be the weakest part of the film but that is in no way saying this film is weak that just the weakest part. Being that it has to compete with 'horror' audiences that like paranormal activity, insidious and other slosh, it was a challenge for the writers but they did well pleasing the possession fans while giving us fans some proper real horror action which was just so refreshing In this age of films. it is all very strong until one part near the end when Mia gets killed to lay the demon to rest and David tries to bring her back with a home made defibrillator (which was so cool) and fails, then two minutes later or so she pops up with "David?" in the sweetest scared voice, this just killed me so much because they left it too long between his last try to bring her back and her popping up. But as an overall standard the story was fantastic it felt real and feasible(for what it is) with some strong foundations and lore there.

Nods to the original:

The film had many noticeable nods to the original such as Mia severing her hand and then using a chainsaw with her other hand and the stump as support, the camera movements in the forest, Natalie cutting her hand/arm off because its possessed/infected,  pages in the necronomicon (as seen above), some of the dialogue, the opening scene with the man in the forest, the 'boomstick' and so many
more its hard to keep count. It was so nice to give us true evil dead fans something to notice throughout.

In Conclusion:

I would say this is a true horror film filled with gore, possession, demons and slaughtering on a massive scale. With some really strong performances and an updated horror film that felt like an evil dead classic told a bit differently just empowered the horror genre so that we may have a strong horror comeback in the next few years which would be great as the died around the early nineties. Lots of little references and an amazing ending I would recommend this film to any evil dead fan, horror fan or just anyone wanting to see a great (actually) scary movie. Take your friends, partners and family and go'n check this out it will be worth it.

Bates Motel Season 1 Episode 05.

! This is a warning if you haven't seen this episode yet turn back now, there will be spoilers ahead. This is a personal reviewing and all my points are opinion unless stated otherwise!

As the show opens from a very striking scene and I'm not sure whether its Freddie Highmore creepy face or it was done on purpose but the way Norman goes to stroke Bradley's hair is just so striking, he goes to touch but there is hesitation, why would he hesitate? why would he stroke her head ? There is a constant thought going on in my mind that he is envious of the people who committed the crimes in the 'manga' book they found, the way he treats the women in his life is with up most respect whilst you can see the thoughts going on in his head.

Once we bypass this whole sex-capade we get to the follow on from the previous episode, Norma's imprisonment. Vera Famiga/Norma Bates as always shines as she forces Norman to want her attention she pushes and pushes him away to the point that he is constantly attempting to gain back her love. she is so reluctant to even talk to them, she even goes to the point of screaming Norman out of the car. This when he states he is "scared of her" she amps it up and pulls him out and drives off. All of this is very clever and also linking in to the infatuation with his mother that we see in psycho, she is a very smart woman and is a master at manipulation. she does it with everyone especially Norman and Zack due to Dylan being resilient, she is almost childish how she acts with people when she is in a 'mood'.

All throughout the episode while going through the relationship drama, friendship and sex slave side, Norman is thinking is hoping about his mother and what she will do to him, she almost drives him to breaking point then pulls back her master plan. By this I mean her pushing and pushing him then suddenly towards the end she embraces him with so much joy and love making Normans eyes light up as his mother loves him once again. All of this is pointing further and further towards Normans obsession and love for women in his life.

The drawbacks of the episode have to be the teen drama and the stupid crime drug dealer aspect nobody cares if a random dud we barely know gets killed, there is no impact, it is pointless. but low and behold they keep on putting it in, it draws straight away from the real story we all tune in to see, ya know the one its based off. However the teen drama side can be forgiven as we can tell that its pointing towards Normans behaviour but i just cant see where the drug dealing is going, why is it even there?  if anyone has any theories I'm happy to hear.

Speaking of the book this episode is where things start to heat up and it seems that there is almost a club that was selling these girls out as there was Keith Summers and also Zack Shelby which we found out in E03 so one of the biggest questions of the episode is who else is in this 'club'? So back to the book, After Norma gets arrested Norman goes to trade the deed to post bail and tells Emma that he found the girl from the book but she cant ask any questions at all. Later she takes it upon herself to do some googling and finds that Keith Summers actually also owned a boat (how she found it so quick still baffles me), so to quickly wrap up she tells Norman and they go on a sex slave hunt in the boat to find her, they do and the scene is so so flat there was a slight suspense which they open the locked door to see emptiness but the what do you know they find her in another door and she falls/charges out in a rage, it was just so emotionless and dull for what could have happened there.

Norman and Emma try to show  Norma about the girl and this is where some real cinematography and emotion come into play excessively helped by Vera's acting as the pure disgust Norma has with Norman is so forceful until the Asian girl tells the truth then all is revealed and the shaky fast paced camera movements matched with Vera's acting make this scene so shocking and intense that it is a true climax to end the episode on.

In Conclusion.

I believe the overall episode was good but not great. Excellent climax with some more fantastic acting from Vera and Olivia but as usual the drug dealing brought it right down as well as the cop helping out. Too many bland scenes. Having said that it was still gripping with some beautifully use of light (for a TV episode).

Speculation Time?
This is where is speculate what will happen in the next episode from the preview.

I think Norman is going to get his Psycho on by trying his luck to kill or trap Zack with the use of his mother what appears to be whoring herself out while Norman objects. I think the next episode will be the most exiting yet with constant action and suspense and hopefully a murder.
